Reports said that tin sheets, flying due to windstorm from a rooftop, hit a woman in Botengo area of Anantnag district.

Identified as Menu Jan, wife of Khursheed Ahmad, the woman was critically injured. She was rushed to GMC Anantnag for treatment where doctors declared her dead, officials said.

Meanwhile, three migrant labourers were killed after a cloudburst hit a brick kiln at Chandapora area of Budgam district.

Reports said that a woman named Bure, wife of Saleem Mansoori from Bareli Uttar Pradesh and her two sons Kaiser Mansoori and Mohammad Rayees, were killed after hit by a cloudburst.

Reports pouring from several north and south Kashmir areas said that scores of structures were damaged and trees uprooted due of the windstorm.

Reports further suggested that the windstorm also damaged electricity transmission lines thus impacting the electric supply to certain areas. The wings also uprooted apple and cherry trees in several areas.

Reports suggested that north Kashmir’s Baramulla, Bandipora, Kupwara districts and Budgam district of central Kashmir were the worst hit.

Reports said that while the windstorm blew away rooftops of several structures, traffic on Srinagar-Baramulla highway was disrupted after huge poplar trees uprooted by winds damaged two cars  bearing registration numbers JK04E 5070-Swift) and JK014 7635-Alto).

“Five houses and three shopping complexes suffered damage due to the winds in Sopore. Pattan and Sumbal, Rafiabad areas also got affected with several rooftops of houses damaged and fruit crop suffered huge damage,” locals told Kashmir Images.

“Dozens of poplar, chinar, apple, walnut and other trees were uprooted and fruits, particularly walnuts suffered massive damage,” reports said.

Following the windstorm, power supply in parts of Baramulla, Bandipora, Kupwara  and Sopore has also been snapped due to the breaking of poles and cables. However, no casualty was reported in the incident, said a police official.

The electricity supply was being restored in the evening after the field staff of the Power Development Department (PDD) swung into action to repair  and restore the damaged lines.
