NIT Srinagar gets special project grant under MS&T project

NIT Srinagar to host 5-day conference on nanotechnology from April 7

Srinagar: The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar has been listed among the three premier institutes of India that have bagged special project grants under the Department of Bio-Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology, (MS&T) Government of India under Himalayan Bio-resource Mission.

As per the communiqué issued by the Ministry of S&T, a project entitled ‘Value-Added products from invasive plant species for improving livelihoods of marginalized communities in Indian Himalaya” under Himalayan Bio-resource for a period of three years and the total cost of the project is rupees 85, 66,800.

Among the total amount, NIT Srinagar has got a grant of rupees 1764560 for the period of three years and the principal investigator for the project is Dr. Tanveer Rasool, Assistant Professor, Grade-I, Department of Chemical Engineering.

Director NIT Srinagar (Dr.) Prof. Rakesh Sehgal extended his warm greetings to Dr. Tanveer Rasool for getting the prestigious project for the institute.

“It is a proud moment for the entire NIT Srinagar family. Such projects are taking the institute to new heights in the field of academics and research,” he said.

Prof. Sehgal said such projects facilitate collaboration and create new opportunities for research and development.

“The aim and objective of any technical institution is to enhance the quality of life of a common man,” he said.

Institute’s Registrar, Prof. Syed Kaiser Bukhari congratulated Dr. Taveer Rasool for bagging the prestigious project grant under the Department of Bio-Technology, MS&T Government of India.

“It is encouraging to see that NIT Srinagar is among the best institutions across the country to get a special grant under the Himalayan Bio-resource Mission in order to push education and research. We are committed to reach new heights for better outcomes in future,” he said.

Prof. Bukhari said NIT Srinagar will leave no stone unturned to achieve creditable space at national and international levels.

In his message, Dr. Tanveer Rasool expressed his gratitude to Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. Sehgal, and Institute’s Registrar Prof. Bukhari for their support and appreciation for such activities on the campus.

“The three-year project will explore areas of research, education, policy inputs, and outreach for the development and dissemination of efficient technologies for sustainable use,” he said.

The other investigators for the projects are Prof. Manzoor Ahmed Shah, Asst. Prof at Deptt. of the Botany, University of Kashmir and Dr. Sarala Khaling, Regional Director, North Eastern Himalaya, Asoka Trust for Research and the Ecology and Environment (ETREE), Gangtok-Sikkim.

Apart from this prestigious project, Dr. Tanveer Rasool has been recently nominated as a member of the International Relations Committee of the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers (IIChE) along with seven other members from across the country.
