SRINAGAR: Muslim Waqf Board chairperson, Dr Darakshan Andrabi Saturday said buildings constructed on Waqf land illegally will be bulldozed and those having encroached board property will be dealt with under law.

Talking to the media at her office chambers here, Andrabi cautioned people against encroaching upon Waqf land saying the board was established for the wellbeing of the poor and not for the rich and influential.

“Gone are the days of references, recommendations and kickbacks, there is no room for corruption and I would like to appeal to all those who have encroached upon Waqf land anywhere to visit our office before their illegal structures are razed to rubble,” added Andrabi.

She also criticized and termed those seeking money from the public in the name of holy places (shrines) as beggars saying all the shrines will be made free from alms seekers who she alleged loot gullible people for their petty personal gains.

“Soon we will shift to an online system of donations and different online transaction facilities at all shrines will be made available to the people,” she said.

The BJP leader who was recently appointed as the chairperson of the Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Waqf Board that looks after Muslim shrines, mosques and educational institutions in the Union Territory said those erecting tall buildings on Waqf land commit breach with Allah and his beloved prophet (SAW) as whatever Waqf owns belongs to Allah.

“Do not expect any leniency from us; we are committed to free Waqf land from the clutches of encroachers, we are the custodians but owner is Allah, hence we appeal everyone to desist from encroaching upon Waqf land,” said Andrabi.

She also said that the Waqf Board will soon built a Cancer Hospital in J&K.

Earlier, a one day Waqf Convention was held today at Srinagar which was presided over by Dr Darakhshan Andrabi.

Members of the Board, Dr Ghulam Nabi Haleem and Syed Mohammad Hussain were also present. Chief Executive Officer of J&K Waqf Board Mufti Fareed, all Administrators of Waqf managed shrines of Kashmir valley and the staff of Waqf from Srinagar District was present.

Zubair Ahmad, JKAS presented a detailed report of the present working system in Waqf.
