Director Agriculture Kashmir visits sweet corn areas of Uri

Srinagar: The Director Agriculture Kashmir Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal today visited Potato Seed Development Farm Kalnag Kokernag of South Kashmir. 

While interacting with the concerned officers and technical staff of the farm, the Director said that Seed Multiplication Farms are the most important assets with the Department and in order to achieve the target of self-reliance in the field of seed production and reduce dependence on seeds coming from outside Union Territory and assured seed availability to the farming community of the union territory with respect to all the crops grown in the region.

He said the Department is committed to promote these seed multiplication farms on modern scientific lines.

Iqbal  asked the concerned officers to adopt latest standard interventions in the sector of seed production so that the Department could meet the demand for different types of seeds and could ensure the availability of seed to the farmers in sufficient quantity and at the right time.

The Director exhorted the concerned officers and farm managers to invite farmers and agri-entrepreneurs to these farms and hold demonstration sessions with them so that the modern trends and technology in this trade could be transmitted to the grassroots level in a comprehensive manner. 

He said that to a very large extent the Department has been successful in achieving the ambitious targets of providing the farmers with round the year availability of seedlings/seeds of different crops and the farms of the department are a vital link in this direction.

During the visit, the Director was accompanied by the Potato Development Officer Kashmir and other senior officers of the Department.
