Pattan: The residents of Shalpora and Tantraypora localities of Palhallan area of Pattan in Baramulla district on Saturday staged a strong protest demonstration against Jal Shakti Department (PHE) for failing to provide safe drinking water supply to the areas. 

Witnesses said that the protesters, mostly women, blocked Srinagar-Baramulla national highway to protest against shortage of drinking water.

They said that they have umpteen times brought the issue into the notice of the concerned department but nothing has been done so far.

Soon after protestors blocked the highway, a team of officials including Tehsildar Pattan Saqib Murtaza, DO Palhallan Athar Parvaiz, Naib Tehsidar Palhallan, AEE PHE Zahoor reached the spot  pacify the protestors and and restored the traffic movement.

They assured the protestors that water supply to the area will be restored soon and later the protestors dispersed off peacefully after assurance by the officials.
