Advisor Bhatnagar conducts surprise inspection of GWC Srinagar

Srinagar: Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar today conducted a surprise inspection of Govt. Women’s College (GCW) M.A Road here and reviewed the pace and progress of various ongoing construction works in the college.

During the visit, the Advisor inspected ongoing works on classroom block being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 13.34 crores under Jehlum Tawi Flood Recovery Project (JTFRP) being powered by World Bank. The Advisor had a detailed inspection of the different aspects of the building. He directed the chief Engineer R&B, Kashmir to complete the ongoing works within the given deadlines so that the building can be dedicated to students for the class work.

On the occasion, Chief Engineer R&B presented a detailed outlay of the building before the Advisor and informed him that the building is being constructed keeping in view the other heritage structures of the college. 

The Advisor also visited the construction site of the Administrative block and inspected the ongoing works there. He took serious note of the slow pace of work there and instructed the officers of the executing agency that no lackadaisical approach will be entertained while carrying out this important work. The Advisor asked them to complete all required works within the fixed timelines.

Meanwhile, Advisor Bhatnagar also took a detailed tour of the college and inspected all the infrastructure of the institution.

The Advisor visited the Innovation and Incubation centre of the college and took a detailed overview of the courses being offered through the centre. He also inspected the skilling centre for health care professionals.

Advisor Bhatnagar while interacting with the management of these centres, lauded them for establishing these kinds of innovative centres here. He asked them to use these centres to their maximum potential so that the objective with which they have been established can be achieved.

The Advisor further asked them to create linkages with other institutes like NIT Srinagar so that campus placements for the students can be carried out in this college also.

The Advisor on the occasion highlighted that providing better infrastructure in educational institutions is the top priority of the administration and these centres will certainly help in providing advanced learning techniques to the students and make them competent with the fast-paced world of technology.

Advisor Bhatnagar while interacting with the Principal and other staff of college said that the administration is always available for the faculty and students to get their feedback for further improving the working culture as well as infrastructure of the educational institutes across J&K.

During the visit, Principal GCW, informed the Advisor that the Innovation and Incubation centre has a facility for debates and discussion where ideas of students and innovators can be nurtured and put together. She further informed the Advisor that currently at the centre the college is training students from different colleges regarding software skills and financial literacy and training them to achieve financial independence.

The Principal also informed that under this programme will give hands on training about block chain technology, stock investments, YouTube earnings and other means of earning.

She further informed that the college has constituted a team comprising one coordinator and five innovation officers in Software skills, Food Science and Technology, Fashion Technology, Biosciences and Physical Sciences.

On future plans regarding the centre, the Principal informed the Advisor that the college intends to facilitate collaborations with other institutes in and outside the J&K, which will involve physical/instrumentation support as well as mentoring of the young innovators.

Principal GCW, Prof. Nasreen Aman; Chief Engineer, R&B Kashmir, Rafiq Ahmad Rafiq; OSD to Advisor, Sarfaraz Ahmad, senior officers of the R&B department and other officers also accompanied the Advisor during the visit.
