Grenade throwing module busted in Srinagar: Police

Srinagar: Police in Srinagar claimed to have got a major break-through in grenade throwing incidents and busted a module involved in lobbing grenades in Srinagar City.

“Police have arrested 04 terrorist associates linked with proscribed terror outfit LeT and also recovered 04 grenades from their possession,” said a police spokesperson.

“In the evening at about 2000hrs, a police party during Naka checking at Bemina chowk arrested a terrorist associate identified as Zubair Sheikh son of Altaf Sheikh resident of Ellahi Bagh Soura and recovered one hand grenade from his possession,” the spokesperson said.

“Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 15/2022 under relevant sections of law was registered at PS Bemina & investigation was taken up. During the course of investigation, the accused was put to sustained examination & during questioning the accused revealed that he had received this grenade from another terrorist associate namely Shamim Ahmed Chilloo son of Abdul Kareem Chiloo resident of Tankipora Shaheed Gunj, who confessed that he had received a consignment of four (4) hand grenades & handed over one grenade each to Amir Rehman Dar son of Ab Rehman Dar resident of Tengpura Bypass, Shahid Ahmed Mir son of Gulzar Ahmed Mir resident of Dangerpora Nowgam & Zubair Sheikh. During the raids, all the three terrorist associates were also arrested & on their instances three more hand grenades were also recovered. Investigations also revealed that the arrested accused were linked with proscribed terror outfit LeT. The first arrested accused was on his way to throw the recovered hand grenade on Police/SF but the plans were thwarted by timely action of alert naka party,” he said.

“Meanwhile, at about 2015hrs, terrorists hurled a grenade upon joint deployment of Police and CRPF at Zindshah chowk Rainawai area of Srinagar. In this terror incident, a Police personnel & CRPF jawan got splinter injuries and were shifted to nearby hospital for the treatment of their injuries. Senior Police officers immediately reached at the terror crime spot. Area has been cordoned and search in the area is going on. Police has registered a case in this regard under relevant sections of law. Investigation is in progress,” he added.
