JV Division forest organizes plantation drive at GDC Sopore

Sopore: In order to enhance the rich green cover for sustainable development and ecological balance, department of forest’s Jhelum Valley (JV) Forest Division organized a plantation drive in Government Degree College Sopore to paint college premises and its peripheries green on Thursday.

Divisional Forest Officer FO JV Division Parvaiz Ahmad Wani flanked by Principal GDC Sopore Slama Ahad and Dean Sciences Shamim Ahmad Dar inaugurated the plantation drive in which students NSS volunteers participated.

DFO JV Division Parviaz Ahmad Wani highlighted the significance of enhancing the forest cover and highlighted the importance of plantation for saving the environment from hazardous pollution caused by indiscriminate felling of trees and urged upon all stakeholders to actively participate in such programmes.

He also highlighted various flagship programmes sponsored by the forest department and reiterated its commitment of providing an ecologically sustainable environment to the people.

Principal GDC Sopore Slama Ahad said that NSS volunteers, students and staff of all institutions participated in the day-long plantation drive.

“We are highly grateful to the forest department for supplying saplings of trees besides helping us in the plantation. It must be the duty of every conscious citizen to be involved in this drive and plant more trees so that future generations could be saved from the disastrous consequences of the environmental degradation,” said Principal GDC Sopore Slama Ahad.

On this occasion, HOD Botany Prof Tariq Ahmad Wani, Convener Landscapes Prof Tanvir Ahmad Bhat, Dr. Preezada Arshid Shabir IQAS, HOD EVS Prof Suhail Abdullah, Prof Shams-ud-din Shiekh and other officials of the forest department were present.
