Electric transformer gutted fourth time in a month in Umer Colony Sheeri

Baramulla: The power transformer of Umer Colony Malsoma near Dar-ul-uloom Sheeri Baramulla has got damaged four times in a week so far due to which the locality is reeling under darkness.

The local residents of Umer Colony Sheeri staged protest against PDD and demanded that a 250 KV transformer should be installed in their locality. “We had asked the concerned officials to install a 250 KV transformer in our locality during back to village programs, Ghram Shabs.”

They said that their 100 KV electric transformer gutted four times in a week. “We approached the higher officials of the PDD department many times for a new transformer but to no avail.” 

“From last two years our transformer gets damaged quite often and we have to reel under darkness for weeks. The PDD department has provided us four transformers so far,” alleged a local, Habibullah Rather.

Later, the concerned Junior Engineer Mohammad Iqbal Khan reached pacified the protestors assuring them that department will install a 250 KV transformer immediately for which he has submitted the feasibility report.

The protestors dispersed off peacefully after the concerned official assured them of timely action.

Assistant Executive Engineer (Exen) Power Development Department (PDD) Baramulla Yasir Kakroo confirmed that the transformer of the locality got damaged four times in a week due to overloading.
