Dr Farooq calls for socio-political empowerment of women

Jammu: National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah today called for focused socio-political empowerment of women, saying this can enable them play their significant role in the society.

Interacting with the workers of NC Women Wing here this afternoon, Dr Farooq Abdullah, according to the NC spokesperson, said that National Conference has all along provided a platform to women to grow as leaders for playing an effective role in policy planning and decision making.

Provincial President Rattan Lal Gupta, Khalid Najeeb Suharwardy Vice President, YNC Provincial President Ajaz Jan and State Vice President NC Women Wing Bimla Luthra were among the prominent leaders present on the occasion.

“Though much has been done yet much more is still needed to be done for women empowerment”. Dr Abdullah said, adding that as a result of concerted efforts during various spells of the NC government, several measures like impetus on female literacy, reservation in the local self governance, 50 per cent seats in the medical colleges have resulted in desired results. Now women are emerging in all sectors especially in academics, medicine, administration, politics and sports, he added.

Sharing the concern of women speakers, the NC President said that prices in essentials are skyrocketing with LPG prices going up steeply, the housewives were facing the major brunt.

Dr Abdullah urged the cadre to reach out to the people and help them seek redressal to their problems, which have multiplied due to anti-poor policies of the government.

Also present on the occasion included: Rita Gupta, Pinky Khalsa, Bharti, Sabita Devi, Kirti Devi, Shakuntala, Komal, Punit, Jyoti, Rani, Raj Rani, Krishna, Janko Devi, Telki Devi, Retta Devi, Neetu and others.
