Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Wednesday said the unemployment crisis in J&K is deepening with each passing day, charging the incumbent bureaucratic administration of wasting demographic dividend of educated, and skilled youth.

This was stated, according to a press release, by party Spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar, while interacting with a youth delegation here at the party headquarters Nawa-e-Subha, Srinagar. The visiting delegation comprised educated and skilled youth from different parts of Kashmir division. The visiting youth apprised the Spokesperson about various compelling issues faced by them, particularly unemployment.

Interacting with the delegation, Imran said that the party leadership is awake to the suffering of J&K youth. Interacting with the youth, Imran said that the Party President is fighting battles on multiple fronts for securing the future of the youth of Jammu and Kashmir.

Worn down by years of fruitless attempts to acquire government employment, our educated, and skilled youth are facing a job crisis, which is more serious than it seems, Imran said, adding that the depth of suffering of J&K’s youth is immeasurable. “The sheer depth of unemployment crises at national level is deepening day by day and what is worrying here is the fact that the situation in J&K with regards to unemployment is more grim and alarming. Data released by various credible sources corroborate this fact.”

The reason behind the scathing unemployment rate in Jammu and Kashmir, Imran stated is due to the lapse on behalf of incumbent J&K administration in recapitalising the job creating sectors in Jammu and Kashmir like tourism, horticulture, agriculture, handicrafts and MSMEs. Issues confronted by these sectors, he contended, have been left untended.

“Poor recruitment process in JKPSC and JKSSB has further made the entire scenario exceedingly bleak. The incumbent bureaucratic setup in J&K has failed to acknowledge the centre of energy in our educated and skilled youth bulge, who are crucial to J&K’s future growth trajectories. Even in the case of self-employment generation, the incumbent administration has failed in creating avenues for those youth, who want to set up their own enterprises. ‘Mission Youth’ and several other programmes are also non-starters in J&K. The August, 2019 policy of GOI with regards to J&K, successive Covid induced lock downs, absence of Covid sustenance and revival package have only deepened the crisis which had been incubated by implementation of hasty and unwise GST and demonetisation in Jammu and Kashmir,” he added.

Echoing the sentiments of the visiting youth delegation, Imran said that the Party leaders and Members of Parliament are leaving no stone unturned to raise the compelling issues confronted by our youth at every appropriate forum. He said the party functionaries are making best use of press and social media platforms as well to raise different issues confronted by our youth.
