PDP condoles demise of party leader Yashpal Sharma

Srinagar: Senior People’s Democratic Party leader and ex-MLC from Poonch district, Yashpal Sharma died after suffering a massive cardiac arrest last night, family sources said on Sunday. He was 76.

A veteran politician from the region, Sharma was referred to as ‘Sheri Poonch(lion of Poonch) by his followers.

“Shocked to hear about sudden demise of Yashpal Sharma Ji, PDP senior leader & a dear friend of Mufti sahab. His death is an irreparable loss not only to the but to the society as a whole. My heartfelt condolences to the family & may God give them strength to bear this loss,” PDP president, Mehbooba Mufti tweeted.

Naeem Akhtar, a senior PDP leader and former minister tweeted:

“Deeply saddened by the news of the passing away of Yashpal Sharma saheb, a tall, respected leader from Poonch. I have lost a senior colleague who served with me in the state legislature. Our party has lost a stalwart. God bless his soul. Solidarity with the family.”

In March last year, he was among 14 leaders named by PDP President Mehbooba Mufti in the 14-member Political Affairs Committee (PAC).
