Director Agriculture visits Vegetable Clusters of Maloora, Srinagar

Srinagar: The Director Agriculture Kashmir, Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal today stressed for pushing the boundaries in terms of awareness and innovations when it comes to round the year availability of vegetables to add new dimensions to the economic transformation of the farming community.

The Director said this during his visit to the vegetable clusters of Qamarwari Zone of the district.

He acknowledged the collaborative efforts of the farmers and department in making the export of vegetables (from Kashmir to international destinations like Sharjah, Dubai) dream come true. He added that it was an unprecedented move and has opened a new global window for the Agriculture products from Kashmir.

Iqbal reiterated the importance of a more vibrant marketing strategy. He asked for redesigning/reshaping of different marketing models to increase the export of Vegetables from Kashmir. He said for the promotion of trade at international level, implementation of an effective marketing policy has a big role to play.

On this occasion, Joint Director Agriculture Marketing Mohammad Qasim Gani presented a detailed blueprint for providing marketing facilities to the farmers at their door steps. He informed the Director of various steps taken by the Department for the promotion of trade, financial security of the farmers.

Earlier Chief Agriculture Officer Srinagar apprised the Director of various interventions by the department for the promotion of vegetable cultivation on modern scientific lines. He enumerated the steps taken by the department to attract more people towards the vegetable sector.

Earlier, the Director visited various progressive farmer fields and hi-tech Poly houses and inspected different agriculture activities and asked the concerned officers to ensure every technical support to the farmers and work in a coordinated manner.

During the visit, Director was accompanied by Joint Director Marketing M. Qasim Ghani, Sub Divisional Agriculture Officer Srinagar, and Agriculture Extension Officer Qamarwari besides other senior officers of the district.
