NC denounces ‘targeted’ demolition drive against Gujjar households in Jmu
FacebookTwitterWhatsapp

Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Thursday condemned, what the party called, the “targeted demolition drive” by Jammu Development Authority against Gujjar community terming the action part of the larger plan of ruling BJP to disenfranchise every segment of the society in J&K.

In a statement issued here, Party’s Additional General Secretary Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamal while condemning the targeted demolition drive of Gujjar households in Jammu said: “Since BJP had its hands on power in New Delhi and Srinagar the Gujjar community has particularly fallen prey to the sinister design and a test case for engineering demographic change in Jammu and Kashmir.”

The selective witch hunt, Kamal said also gives vent to the derision that ruling BJP nurtures for Gujjar and Bakarwal community. “BJP is using the community as a mere tool for regional polarization in the politics of J&K,” he added.

The socio-economic condition of GB community, Kamal said, was used by BJP for justifying the illegal and unconstitutional revocation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special constitutional status but when it comes to the implementation of FRA and scheduled castes and tribes (Prevention of Atrocities), the ruling BJP pulls up its hands. “The truth is that since August 5, 2019, the tribals are facing innumerable threats to their identity and way of life. The community has also been in the eye of a storm with right-wing activists calling for their social and economic boycott. Today the Gujjar Muslims in Jammu are feeling under siege,” he added.

Demanding that the community be rehabilitated and compensated, Kamal called for an immediate halt on the demolition drive.
