Amid spike in coronavirus cases, India boosts capacity for tougher challenges ahead

Srinagar: The number of people testing positive for Covid-19 continues to mount as 1695 fresh cases were reported on Wednesday, 547 more than the number reported on Tuesday.

Out of 1695 new positive cases, 883 were reported from Kashmir and 812 from Jammu division, taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 348201, officials said, adding one virus related death was reported from Jammu today.

Jammu district continued to report maximum cases (438), while Srinagar district followed with 320 cases.

Baramulla and Budgam districts in Kashmir too reported a sharp surge as 250 and 116 tested positive there respectively.

Officials said that out of 348201 positive cases, 6242 are Active Positive (3348 in Jammu Division and 2894in Kashmir Division), 337412 have recovered and 4547 have died; 2212 in Jammu division and 2335in Kashmir division.

Pulwama reported 30 cases, Kupwara 52, Anantnag 40, Bandipora 36, Ganderbal 18, Kulgam 20while as Shopian 01 fresh case today.

Meanwhile, Reasi reported 85 cases today, Udhampur 68, Rajouri 42, Doda 10, Kathua 93, Samba 30, Poonch 22, Kishtwar 09 cases while as Ramban reported 15 fresh cases today, officials said.
