Dir Agri chairs procurement rate fixation committee meeting

Jammu: Divisional Level Committee constituted for fixation of procurement/sale rates of Potato and open pollinated Vegetable seeds for Kharif season 2022 met today under the chairmanship of Director Agriculture Production & farmers Welfare, Jammu, K. K. Sharma, here at Krishi Bhawan Talab Tillo Jammu.

The meeting was attended by HOD Vegetable Sciences and Floriculture, SKUAST-J, R. K. Samnotra;  Joint Director Agriculture (Inputs), A. S. Reen; Joint Director Agriculture ( Marketing), Mahesh Verma; Agronomist (vegetable Improvement Scheme), J. C. Raina; Accounts Officer, Anita Sumeria; Divisional Seed Certification Officer, Randhir Sharma; Potato development Officer, Susheel Rattan Sharma and  Incharge CSS section, Ajab Singh.

Threadbare discussion on all relevant parameters was held in the meeting to finalize the procurement/Sale rates of open pollinated vegetable and potato seed for spring/Kharif 2022.

The Director Agriculture impressed upon the officers to ensure the timely supply of high quality vegetable/potato seed to the farmers. He passed on the instruction to make sure the availability of ginger, garlic, turmeric, alocasia (arbi), yam (Jimicand) seeds besides seeds of other locally grown specialty vegetables like white bitter gourd, ridge gourd etc for further testing and evolution.

Highlighting the emerging trend of urban farming, the Director suggested including the provision of kitchen garden kits while procuring vegetable seeds for facilitation of urban growers.

Procurement rates for 40 vegetables and potato seeds were finalized by the committee after deliberations in the meeting.
