Srinagar: Three militants were killed in an encounter in Kulgam district while as one soldier and a police man were injured in a separate encounter in Anantnag district.

Police sources said that on a specific input generated by Kulgam Police, a search operation was launched in Mirhama area of Kulgam and as the security forces zeroed in at the militant hideout, the hiding militants opened fire triggering an encounter.

Three militants were killed in the shootout, Police sources said.

The identity of the killed militants was yet to be ascertained, said the sources.

Meanwhile, one soldiers and a policeman were injured in an encounter with militants in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, officials said on Wednesday.

A police official said the encounter started when security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Nowgam Shahabad of Dooru in the south Kashmir district acting on a specific input about the presence of militants.

He said as the forces were conducting the searches, the hiding militants fired upon them.

The forces retaliated, ensuing an encounter, the official said.

In the initial firing, a soldier of the army and a policeman were injured, he said.

The exchange of firing was going on and further details were awaited, he said.

“#Encounter has started at Nowgam Shahabad, Dooru area of #Anantnag. In the initial firing, 01 police personnel got injured & was shifted to hospital. Police & SFs are on the job. Further details shall follow,” Kashmir Zone Police tweeted, earlier.
