Srinagar: The driver of a SUV was killed while nine persons onboard it were injured when the vehicle skidded off the road and overturned at Tanghdar area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Monday.

According to news agency GNS, the vehicle (JK01W-5979) met with the accident at Neeti Galli Nawagabra area of Tanghdar and fell into a gorge, resulting in on-the-spot death of the driver Intekhab Alam, son of Mohammad Sayab, a resident of Nowagabra Tanghdar and injuries to nine others.

The injured have been shifted to hospital for treatment.

A police officer confirmed the accident adding that a case has been registered in this regard.

In a separate accident, the driver of a vehicle died after it rolled down into a stream along the Khari-Mahoo link road near Kawna in sub-division Banihal of Ramban district on Monday, officials said.

As per officials, the vehicle was on way to Mahoo village when it skidded off the road near Kawna and plunged into Mahoo nullah this afternoon.

Soon after the accident locals , police and army-men from nearby Buzla camp swung into action and started a rescue operation, but found the driver, identified as Shabir Ahmed Gouth, son of Abdul Ghani Gouth, a local from Gadora tehsil Khari, dead on spot in the damaged vehicle, an official said.

Police have registered a case under relevant sections at Banihal police station into the incident.
