Srinagar: Police on Wednesday arrested two men from Pattan area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district along with cigarettes worth over Rs 1 lakh they had stolen from a shop in Srinagar’s Hyderpora over a month ago.

As per a handout by Budgam police, on November 10, Police Station Magam received a complaint from one Mukhtar Ahmad Mir, son of Adul Aziz Mir, resident of Hyderpora, stating therein that during the intervening night of November 06-07, some unknown burglars broke open his shop and looted cigarettes worth more than Rs one lakh.

Accordingly, a case (FIR no. 242/2021) under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Magam and investigation taken up.

During the course of investigation, an accused involved in other theft case namely Muzaffar Ahmad Dar, son of Ghulam Mohammad Dar, resident of Hanjiwera Pattan in Baramulla district, was rounded up who disclosed about the stolen property that led to recovery of the stolen cigarettes, police said.

Moreover, upon Dar’s disclosure, his accomplice Ibrahim Hajam, son of Mohammad Qasim Hajam, resident of Nehar Colony Mirgund Pattan, was also arrested, it said adding that the investigation of the case is going on and more recoveries and arrests are expected.
