Bar condemns publication of controversial textbook for Class 7th

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association Srinagar has condemned depiction of certain content in History and Civics textbook of Class 7th by a Delhi based publishing house.

In a statement, issued to Kashmir News Service (KNS), a spokesperson said that in a meeting of the Bar Association presided over by its chairman, advocate N.A. Ronga, it was observed that the contents including are blasphemous and have hurt the religious sentiments of a particular community.

The statement reads that the Bar Association is deeply disturbed on printing and publishing this kind of book and at the same time prescribing the same as controversial book in syllabus for 7th class students.

“As such stern action is demanded against Author, Printer and Publisher of the book. The book should be withdrawn from the market and from the syllabus of the 7th class students immediately through out India,” it reads.

As per the statement it was also decided that Bar Association will take appropriate proceedings against the Printer, Publisher and Author of the controversial book, which has inherent potential to disturb the communal harmony and hurt the religious sentiments and beliefs of a particular Community.

Bar are also requested for lodging of an FIR against the publishing house.

While condemning the publication of the controversial book, the Bar appreciated the UT Administration for registering an FIR against the Printer and Publisher of the Book and steps taken for its withdrawal from the market, schools and from the syllabus of 7th class students.

The Bar impressed upon all scholars, writers not to publish blasphemous material against any religion, which have the potential of disturbing peace and tranquility in the society besides, hurting religious sentiments of any community.
