Horti Dept organizes awareness cum training prog at Kulgam

KULGAM: The Department of Horticulture today organised an awareness cum training camp to aware the farmers about different Departmental Schemes in vogue particularly the newly launched Modified High Density scheme at Rest House Chawalgam, here.

The Director General (DG) Horticulture Kashmir, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat was the Chief Guest on the occasion, while DDC Chairperson, Kulgam, Mohd Afzal Parrey also graced the occasion.

Various DDC and BDC members along with PRIs also attended the camp.

At the outset, Chief Horticulture Officer Kulgam, Dr. M. Iqbal Baba highlighted the present scenario of the Horticulture sector in the district and appraised the participants about various developmental schemes including Modified High-Density Scheme.

Addressing the gathering, DG elaborated in detail about the incentives available under the various central and UT sponsored schemes of the department viz. MIDH, PMDP, SMAM, PMKSY, CAPEX etc. He urged the farmers to come forward and avail the benefits under these schemes.

Regarding the modified High-Density Scheme, he encouraged the farmers of the area, particularly marginal and small farmers to come forward and take the advantage of the newly launched Scheme. He further added that shifting to High Density Plantation is the only viable alternative to increase the production and productivity.

He further gave on spot instructions to the officers to give wide publicity to all schemes particularly the Modified High-Density Scheme by holding awareness camps at village and block levels.

Farmers appreciated the working of the department and as a goodwill gesture presented an amount of Rs. 16000 to the Director General, Horticulture, which he subsequently gave to the DDC member Manzgam Jameela Akhtar for utilizing them for the wellbeing of tribal population.

Chief Horticulture Officer, Kulgam, President CA Stores Association Kashmir, District Lead Bank Manager Kulgam, and various entrepreneurs participated in the camp.

The camp was attended by a large number of progressive orchardists.
