SRINAGAR: The Director Agriculture Kashmir, Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal today visited Potato Seed Tubers Sorting and Grading Plant at Central Potato Store Lalmandi.

During the visit, the Director inspected different sections of the plant and took stock of different operations under execution there.

While expressing his views, the Director said that Potato Grading /Processing plays an important role in ensuring that only the healthy and high quality potato seed tubers are stored and subsequently provided to the farmers.

The Director asked the concerned officers to ensure that the grading, sorting, processing of the potato is done well in time so that the seed could be supplied to the farmers at the right time.

He said that every year new areas are brought under potato cultivation therefore the demand for the quality and well graded potato seed is increasing and under such circumstances the grading and sorting plant at Lalmandi has a significant role to play.

Potato Development Officer Waheed ur Rehman briefed the Director Agriculture about the functioning of the plant and the progress on different processing operations.

Director Agriculture Kashmir was accompanied by Joint Director Agriculture Extension, Joint Director Agriculture Inputs, Joint Director Agriculture Engineering, Deputy Director Planning, Deputy Director Agriculture Central and other officers.

Earlier Director Agriculture inspected a semi hi-tech poly green house at the grow out site, Seed Testing Laboratory Lalmandi, Srinagar.

He also held an interaction with the representatives of LULU Group regarding the marketing of different agricultural crops from Kashmir to the marketing platforms at international level.
