JAMMU: Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar today chaired a meeting to review the functioning as well as progress on several schemes of Fisheries department at Civil Secretariat here.

The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary, Fisheries Department, Navin Kumar Choudhary; Director, Fisheries, J&K, Director Planning Fisheries department, Director Finance Fisheries department, all the Joint Directors and CPOs of Fisheries department both in person and through video conferencing.

During the meeting, Advisor Bhatnagar took a detailed review of fish production works being done in various districts besides progress on different Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS), CAPEX, development programs of the department and other issues were also assessed by the Advisor.

Highlighting  the need for tapping the potential of fish production areas, Advisor Bhatnagar directed the officers to prioritise setting up of fish units in these areas for better growth of the sector as well as creating employment avenues for locals.

The Advisor asked the officers to provide constant handholding to the existing unit holders so that the production can be enhanced. He stressed upon the officers that awareness camps should be held across J&K so that people are encouraged and assisted for starting entrepreneurial ventures in these sectors.

While reviewing the progress on CSS and other schemes, Advisor Bhatnagar delved upon the officers to work with utmost dedication and diligence so that the benefits of these welfare schemes can percolate to the beneficiaries.

Highlighting the need for establishing better marketing and export facilities, Advisor Bhatnagar impressed upon the officers that fish processing, storage, packaging and logistics facilities need to be upgraded so that the fish produce of J&K can reach to various destinations across the globe.
