Baramulla: An open drain, filled with filth and muck, located along the highway in Baramulla is posing risk to commuters and pedestrians.
Shopkeepers and local inhabitants told Kashmir Images that for the last several years, the drain constructed by Beacon continues to remain choked, besides the slab of the drain has got badly damaged at several places.
“In 2018, we built a culvert over the drain at our own expense. However, the authorities failed to clean and repair the drain due to which the locals are facing a lot of hardships,” they said.
Recently, after a huge public outcry, the District Administration asked the R&B to demolish the existing slab, while the Municipality Council was asked to carry out the de-silting.
The Chairman of Municipal Council Baramulla, Touseef Raina, said that they have cleaned the drain by carrying out the de-silting process and now R&B department and Beacon has to complete the rest of the work. “I hope the drain will be repaired within this week,” he added.
When contacted O C Beacon did not respond to the repeated calls and text messages of this reporter.
