Youth shot dead in Bohri Kadal area of Srinagar

Srinagar: A civilian, salesman by profession, was shot dead by suspected militants at Bohri Kadal area of downtown Srinagar Monday evening, officials said.

This was the second such killing in Kashmir in past 24 hours.

Sunday evening, a police man was killed by suspected militants in Batamaloo area of Srinagar.

Officials said that unknown gunmen, suspected to be militants, fired at a salesman Muhammad Ibrahim, a resident of Ashtengu Ghat, area of northern district of Bandipora.

He was rushed to SMHS hospital with two bullet injuries in his abdomen and succumbed while being operated upon.

He was working at a shop owned by one Dr Sandeep Mawa.

Meanwhile, a police spokesman in a statement said that at 8:10 pm, police received information about the crime incident at Bohri Kadal area of Srinagar.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that militants had fired upon one civilian identified as Muhammad Ibrahim Khan son of Ghulam Muhammad Khan, resident of Ashtengoo, Bandipora. In this incident, Ibrahim received critical gunshot injured and was shifted to nearby hospital for treatment where he succumbed,” the police spokesman said.

He said that the police have registered a case in this regard. “Investigation is in progress and officers continue to work to establish the circumstances which lead to this crime. Area has been cordoned off and search operation has been launched in the area,” the spokesman said.

Two such killings have taken place in last 24 hours and the Srinagar Police still remains clueless as to who are the killers.

Earlier several such killings were reported from Kashmir and Police had claimed neutralizing some of those behind such killings.

Meanwhile, former chief minister and NC vice president, Omar Abdullah, Peoples Conference chairman, Sajad Lone and Apni Party president Altaf Bukhari condemned the killing of the civilian.
