Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Friday took strong exception to the disparity being meted out by NHAI to the landowners of Gudsathoo village in Central Kashmir over the differential rates for their sold-out lands for the construction of the road.

Expressing dismay over the unjustifiable disparity meted out to landowners by the NHAI, Party’s additional Spokesperson Mudassir Shahmiri said that the 60% of the landowners who had sold out their lands to the concerned agency for the construction of the ring road have been given the payment at the rate of 17 lakhs as per 29 lakhs estimates but the due compensation to rest of the landowners was held up for three years. “Of late the remaining landowners are being informed that they will be given Rs 14 lakhs against the 17 lakhs. This differential treatment is unjustified and detestable,” he said.

He further said that far from revising the rates as the payment was withheld for three years, the concerned agency is deducting the already reached out agreement with the landowners. “The concerned authorities should refrain from chopping off the orchids of the concerned landowners as the quantum of the compensation is not acceptable to them. It is sheer highhandedness; such incidents leave a bad precedent. I impress upon the incumbent JK govt to look into the issues and ensure that justice doesn’t become causality in this matter,” he added.

He also demanded that the pending payments to the landowners be given as per the revised rates.
