Srinagar: In the wake of surging Covid-19 positive cases in Srinagar district, the district administration this Friday too disallowed congregational prayers in some main mosques and shrines in Srinagar city.

Congregational prayers were not allowed in main mosques masjids like Jama Masjid and shrines, particularly at Hazratbal and Makhdoom Sahib (RA).

Some devotees were upset and questioned that if the government itself hold tourism Melas, sports events and such other things, why the congregational prayers alone are seen as risk factor.

However, congregational prayers were allowed in almost all localisd Jama Masjids in and around Srinagar and elsewhere, reports said.

Pertinently, Srinagar district in the past one week has witnessed a significant rise in COVID-19 cases. An official said that in the wake of rise in Covid positive cases in Srinagar, prayers are being barred at some major shrines and masjids in Srinagar as a “precautionary measure.”
