Srinagar: Director Agriculture Kashmir, Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal, today inaugurated a workshop on Hydroponics, here.

The workshop was organized by the Department of Agriculture Kashmir and sponsored by 34 Assam Rifles Wusan Battalion Gund Ganderbal.

Speaking on the occasion, the Director highlighted the importance of Hydroponics amid the present agriculture scenario.

During his interaction with the farmers, the Director highlighted different centrally sponsored schemes including Kisan Credit Card Scheme, PM Kisan SAMAN NIDHI, Pradhan Mantri Krishi Seenchaye Yojana, Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana etc. He asked the farmers to adopt apiculture, mushroom cultivation and other allied activities for their socio-economic transformation.

Iqbal impressed upon the officers/officials of the Department to work in close coordination with the PRIs at different levels to ensure that the schemes and flagship programs run by the Department reach the grassroots level.

He reiterated the importance of brainstorming sessions between different stakeholders including farmers, PRIs, Department etc for a comprehensive and effective implementation of different programs for a desirable outcome.

The Director visited a hydroponic unit, recently established in the area and had an interactive session with the farmers on different aspects of Hydroponics.

Later, the Director also inspected a stall at Tourist destination Sonmarg set up to showcase and promote sweet corn and different types of vegetables grown in the area.

Lieutenant colonel Agni Pradhan, Deputy Director Planning Mohammad Younis Chowdhary, Chief Agriculture Officer Ganderbal and other senior officers were present on the occasion.
