Director Agri Kmr visits saffron fields of Pampore

Pulwama: Director Agriculture Kashmir, Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal, today visited various saffron growing areas of Pampore to take stock of intercultural operations, rejuvenation of saffron corms and other activities being undertaken in the fields.

During the visit, the Director interacted with a number of saffron farmers and took their feedback about the various recent interventions introduced by the department.

While expressing his views, the Director said that the department is committed to reviving the past glory of the saffron sector. He said the department is working on increasing the reach of this most expensive spice to the newer areas, markets and showcasing it to the National and International marketing platforms.

The Director urged the concerned officers and the officials of the department to work in a cordial and coordinated atmosphere with the saffron growers and bring all the latest global interventions in this sector to the farmer’s field so that this unique spice could attract more and more youth of the valley towards it.

Joint Director Agriculture Extension, Sheikh Shahid Iqbal besides other senior officers of the Pulwama district accompanied the Director during the visit.
