Baseer Khan reviews progress on construction of Yatri Niwas at Chanderkote

Ramban: Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Baseer Ahmad Khan, today visited Ramban to review progress on construction work of Yatri Niwas at Chanderkote being constructed by the Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board and to take stock of the holding points created by the District Administration alongside National Highway to facilitate people in emergency especially during the winter season.

Chairperson District Development Council Shamshad Shan, Deputy Commissioner, Ramban, Mussrat Islam, SSP, P.D Nitya, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Harbans Lal, Superintendent Engineer, JPDCL, Circle Batote, Asger Hussain, Executive Engineers and various other senior officers also present on the occasion.

While reviewing the arrangements of water supply, power supply, security and parking arrangements at Yatri Niwas, the Advisor directed all concerned departments to complete the work within prescribed timelines besides ensuring quality of work.

Executive Engineer, CPWD, informed the Advisor that Yatri Niwas is being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 32.16 crore on 23.3 kanal land and the Yatri Niwas residential complex will have seventeen 3 storey dormitories made of pre-engineered structures. He informed the Advisor that over 4500 people will be able to stay here at a time in this Yatri Niwas in case of need or any emergency.

Meanwhile,  the Advisor said that completion of this Yatri Niwas project would help in facilitating people travelling on Jammu- Srinagar National Highway in case of traffic breakdowns.

Advisor Baseer Khan directed Deputy Commissioner Ramban to activate all wayside RAHAT centres keeping in view ensuing winter season. He said these Disaster centers will go a long way to help the stranded passengers in case of sudden road blocks on the National Highway. He impressed upon the officers that these Disaster centre should be well equipped and all the facilities should be kept available including blankets, heating, gas, medical facilities, food, first aid centre, high mast lights, parking facilities and should be located at critical locations especially between Ramban and Banihal. “For each camp there should be a dedicated camp in-charge who shall be responsible for facilitating stranded passengers with all the amenities required for safe and comfortable stay while the traffic is suspended due to inclement weather and closure of NH-44.”

While briefing the Advisor, Deputy Commissioner Ramban said that the District Administration has taken effective steps to increase the holding capacity for commuters and these will be made fully functional as per stipulated timeline.

The Advisor also took stock of functioning of the Power Development Department in the district. While interacting with the officers the Advisor directed them to have all the wires, rotten poles and conductors replaced immediately so that there is hassle-free supply of electricity to the consumers in the coming winters.

He directed them to have the branch cutting of tree done along all the electric corridors so that snapping of power lines due to heavy snow fall on upper reaches is minimized. The Advisor further directed the officers to follow the instructions already given in recent meetings in letter and spirit in light of the winter preparedness of the department.
