Sagar visits fire torn Aklimir locality of Khanyar

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference General Secretary, Haji Ali Muhammad Sagar, on Wednesday paid a visit to Akalmir locality in Khanyar area, where a mosque also housing a seminary besides several other shops were damaged in a blaze.

While expressing grief over the unfortunate incident, Sagar said the mosque and the seminary have been the epicenter of people’s reverence.   While sharing the feeling of mourning and outrage of the local people at the loss, he demanded that the cause behind the mishap be established forthwith.

On the occasion he also interacted with the custodians and members of the Masjid committee and discussed various measures to be undertaken to rebuild and repair the mosque and the seminary. Sagar also interacted with the people, whose properties have also incurred partial or complete damage in the mishap. Consoling the victim families, he assured them that he will take the issue of the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the fire victims, damaged mosque and the seminary with all concerned authorities and at all appropriate forums.

Meantime, he urged the concerned authorities to rush revenue teams to the spot to assess the losses, so that the quantum of the compensation can be worked and distributed at the earliest. Party General Secretary implored upon the concerned authorities to provide subsidized building material to the Masjid Committee and other fire-affected households, so that the reconstruction work picks up before the onset of winter.

“My heart is grieved at this tragedy. The cause behind the ablaze should be unearthed. There is also a great need to do a safety audit of all major historical shrines and mosques in the Shahar e Khas. I hope the concerned authorities will provide succor to the victim families, traders and also ensure speedy reconstruction of the mosque and the attached seminary forthwith,” he added.

On the occasion, the Party General Secretary was accompanied by YNC Provincial President, Kashmir Salman Ali Sagar and scores of party functionaries.
