The meeting was attended by Secretary in Skill Development Department, Nazim Zia Khan and other officers of the department. Director SDD, IMC chairpersons and Superintendents of ITIs in Jammu division participated through Video Conferencing.

The Principal Secretary asked the officers to look for reconstitution of these IMCs to bring fresh lease of life in their working. He urged them to include members from different industrial backgrounds so that there is vibrancy and diversification in the working of these skill imparting institutes.

Dr Samoon maintained that since first time J&K has Industrial Policy promising huge industrial development therefore the corresponding manpower generation should also be our priority to match their requirements. He said that the huge industrial package recently announced is also going to help in establishment of new industrial units here.

Dr Samoon said that the IMCs had been constituted back in 2014 in order to bring industrialists on board in administering our ITIs. He revealed that the chairpersons of these IMCs are industrialists having powers to make amendments in curriculum and introduction of new courses.

The Principal Secretary also asked the officers to provide list of local industrialists and industries so that the new committees are constituted with these as members. He further asked them to look for members from different firms having projects under execution there. He asked them to include members from NHPC, JKSPDC or Railways in hilly areas where presence of industries is negligible.

Dr Samoon also took review of the working of present IMCs. He asked about the meetings being conducted by them. He further reviewed the action taken on various decisions taken in such meetings.

The Principal Secretary was informed that out of 52 ITIs 48 have IMCs. He was also apprised that for model ITIs of Jammu and Srinagar the constitution of new IMCs is at final stage. And all other ITIs would soon be provided with IMCs that would make the functioning of these skill imparting institutions more relevant and results-oriented.
