Cop dies in road accident on Sgr-Jmu highway

Srinagar: Four people were killed and seven others sustained injuries in two separate accidents in Udhampur and Kathua districts on Monday, police said.

Two persons died while another was injured after a car they were on board suffered a collision with a truck inside the Chenani-Nashri tunnel in Udhampur district on Monday, police said.

As per a police statement, the car (JK09-5295) on way to Jammu from Srinagar collided with the truck (HR 38 AA-3671) traveling from Udhampur towards Ramban around 600 meters into the tunnel from Chenani.

In the accident, Ghulam Mohammad Ganai, son of Abdul Ahad Ganai, whose residence was not immediately known, and Gulzar Ahmad Lone, son of Ghulam Mohammad Lone of Watred Khansahib in central Kashmir’s Budgam district died, police said.

A third person identified as Showket Ahmad Bhat, son of Ghulam Rasool Bhat of Yangora area of Ganderbal, suffered injuries in the accident, added police.

The accident took place at around 12.35 pm affected traffic on the highway for nearly an hour, they said.

In a separate incident, a mother-son duo was killed in a head-on collision between two private vehicles in Rajbagh area in Kathua district, police said.

Eight people injured in the accident that occurred around noon were taken to Government Medical College, Kathua, where Darshan Kumar (45) and his mother Kamlesh Rani (75) were declared brought dead, police said.
