Ganderbal: Owing to the heavy downpour followed by several cloudbursts during the preceding night, several houses in many villages in Kangan belt of Ganderbal district have suffered damages.

However, no loss of human life and livestock has been reported from the areas.

The villages located in upper reaches of district including Ganiwan, Bagh Pati Surfraw, Sumbal Bala Gund, Dard Wuddar and Yachhama were affected while the mudslides also blocked Srinagar-Leh highway near Sarfraw, which was been restored after the hectic efforts by different government agencies.

The flood water also entered into many residential houses and inundated roads and agricultural fields in these areas.

According to Block Development Officer Kangan and Gund, efforts are on to restore the damaged link roads connecting Ganiwan and Sumbal while the department is assessing the losses caused by the cloudbursts.

The affected people have appealed the administration to assess the damage caused in residential houses and agricultural fields and accordingly compensate them.
