Srinagar: The NIA filed supplementary charge-sheet against one Manpreet Singh alias Mann of Amritsar before the NIA Special Court, Mohali, Punjab today under Section 120B, 201 and 489-C of IPC, Sections 25 (1AA) of Arms Act and sections 21 (C), 27A and 29 of NDPS Act, the investigating agency said in a press release here.

It said the case was originally registered (as FIR No. 135/20 dated 25.04.2020) at Police Station Sadar, Amritsar City, following the arrest of Hilal Ahmad Shergojri and seizure of a truck and recovery of Rs 29 lakhs from his possession.

Shergojri, the NIA said “was an over ground worker and a close associate of Riyaz Ahmad Naikoo, the then commander of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM) in Kashmir, who had come to Amritsar to collect funds that were proceeds of narcotics sale, for furthering terrorist activities in J&K.”

NIA had re-registered the case (as RC-23/2020/NIA/DLI dated 08.05.2020) and taken over the investigation. Earlier NIA had filed chargesheet against 11 accused persons in the case.

. Investigation has revealed that chargesheeted accused Manpreet Singh alias Mann is a narco-trafficker and “he was in close contact with other co-conspirators of the case for supply of weapons and channelising the proceeds of sale of narcotics.”

During search 130 live rounds of 9mm calibre of Pakistani origin were recovered from his possession, the NIA said, adding further investigation in the case continues.
