Officials justify sacking of teachers

Srinagar: While the sacking of 11 government employees, including the two sons of Hizbul Mujahideen Chief Sallahudin, remains a debate within political and legal circles in Kashmir, Central Law Enforcement Agencies have been releasing details about the alleged involvement of these employees in subversive activities.

The investigations carried out by different agencies reveal that one Abdul Gani Tantray was working as a teacher at GMS, Hanji Mohalla, Batengu, Anantnag in 1990 when he decided to join Hizbul Mujahideen as its district head also known as Nazir-e-Zillah. When he decided to go for earned leave for a couple of months, Tantray ensured his younger brother Nisar Ahmed Tantray was appointed as a temporary teacher in the same school to fill the vacuum.

When senior Tantray joined back the school after a few months of earned leave, the Junior Tantray with the help of his brother ensured his temporary government order was extended and subsequently regularized in the same school.

“Since then Junior Tantray, a teacher has been brazenly radicalizing youth in his school and the region. Nisar Ahmad Tantray who has been sacked under article 311 (2) (C) of the Constitution of India is a terror sympathizer and active member of Jamat-e-Islami. He joined the ranks immediately after his teaching job was regularized and have indoctrinated a large number of students,” officials of the agencies said.

“Nisar Ahmard Tantray has close ties with Hizbul Mujahideen’s Syed Salahuddin. In fact Nisar Ahmad’s son who is studying in Pakistan was sponsored by Salahuddin,” they added.

Commenting on the sacking of another employe, Mohamad Jabar Parray, a lecturer in District Institute of Education & Training (DIET), the officials said that the said employee is known as ‘Chhota Geelani’ among Jamat-e-Islami cadres.

“His terror activities were under the scanner of state for the last few years but the previous government allowed him to continue with radicalization and supporting terrorists. He has been organizing events of JeI’s student wing known as Jamat-e-Tulba in many schools but authorities looked the other way. He was also pointed out by the security forces for organizing stone pelting and radicalizing youngsters to join terror ranks but no action was taken against him by the previous regimes,” they said, adding, “Parray was also using local mosques to provoke youngsters in the areas with his Jihadi speeches”.

“He was closely working with Jaish-e-Mohammed and acted as a terror catalyst in Anantnag district. While drawing handsome salary from the government, Parray helped the terrorist outfits to execute terror plans and he was supported by then political leaderships,” revealed the officials.

“Raziya Sultan, head teacher of government school, Khiram, Anantnag is another example of teachers preaching terror. Her father M Sultan Bhat was a staunch JeI supporter, who was later killed by terrorists. She was appointed as a teacher on compassionate ground in the year 2000. Security agencies had flagged that she was propagating Dukhtaran-e-Millat (DeM) and JeI ideology but no action was taken,” said the officials.

However, Raziya Sultan refutes the charges and says that she has been framed illegally.

In a message of social media, Raziya Sultan insisted that she has had no links with any terror outfit of terror activity.

But the officials insist, “She has been conducting gatherings of DeM and JeI in her village besides her teaching job. The main agenda of such gathering is to propagate secession of J&K.”

Another teacher sacked by the government as per provision of the Constitution of India is Sakeen Akhter from GPS, Gorjan Khiram in Anantnag. She was appointed as a temporary teacher in 2002 and subsequently regularized in 2008.

“As a teacher she is deeply involved in activities of Dukhtaran-e-Millat (DeM). She organizes gathering of young women and children on behalf of DeM to propagate secessionist activities,” said the officials.

It is pertinent to mention here that National Conference, PDP and CPI(M) have criticized the sacking of employees. However, the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha has justified the sackings saying those involved in subversive activities would not be spared.
