Treating ‘Agenda of Alliance’ will help tackle prevailing situation in Valley: Mehboob Beg
FacebookTwitterWhatsapp

SRINAGAR: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) claimed that party President, Mehbooba Mufti had stood strong to avert abrogation of Article 370 till Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) pulled out of the alliance and Legislative Assembly was dissolved.

Talking to the media at PDP head office here in Srinagar, party senior leader Dr Mehboob Beig said it was due to the withdrawing of BJP support to the PDP that ultimately led to abrogation of article 370. He hoped that the Supreme Court of India would hear the petitions challenging the decision and decide the matter in favor of the people of Jammu and Kashmir whose constitutional rights, he said, were snatched.

“We were part of the coalition, but our President, Mehbooba Mufti who was the then Chief Minister of the erstwhile state keep on averting the political storm till BJP pulled out of the alliance and Legislative Assembly was dissolved,” he said adding GST law was extended only after J&K Assembly passed the legislation.

Beig said, GST was extended to entire India except Jammu and Kashmir till the special session of the Legislative Assembly of the erstwhile state was called and bill was passed. He said no power including both houses of the Parliament could abrogate Article 370 given its constitutional sanctity.

He further said that the country was governed by its constitution and not by the manifesto of any party and hence no political party which rules both houses even with absolute majority was above law. “PDP intentionally refused to meet the Delimitation panel as the party believes that whatever happened in J&K since 2019 was illegal and unconstitutional,” Beig said adding that the delimitation exercise was also unconstitutional.
