J&K records 161 new Covid cases, 2 deaths

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir logged 161 fresh cases of coronavirus on Wednesday, raising the cumulative tally to 3,19,152 while two new fatalities took the death toll to 4,360, officials said.

Of the fresh cases, 123 were reported from the Kashmir division and 38 were from the Jammu division of the union territory, they said.

The officials said Srinagar district recorded the highest of 42 cases followed by 23 cases in Baramulla district. No fresh case was reported from two districts, while the remaining 13 districts had fresh cases in single digits, they added.

The death toll in the union territory rose to 4,360 as two fresh fatalities were reported from Jammu in the past 24 hours, they said.

They also said 358 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and have been discharged from various hospitals including 161 from Jammu and 197 from Kashmir during past 24 hours.

The officials said there were 32 confirmed cases of mucormycosis (black fungus) in the union territory as one fresh case was reported since Tuesday evening.

They said 98.25 percent of population above the age of 45 years has been vaccinated across the Jammu and Kashmir so far.

According to the daily media bulletin on novel coronavirus (Covid-19), out of 3,19,152 positive cases recorded cumulatively so far, currently there are 2,236 are active positive cases in J&K, while as 3,12,556 persons have recovered and 4,360 have died – 2,231 in Kashmir and 2,129 in Jammu division.

The bulletin further said that out of 1,07,86,504 test results available, 1,04,67,352 samples have tested negative till today.

Till date 25,93,013 persons have been enlisted for observation which included 8,796 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by the government, 2,236 in isolation and 2,87,524 in home surveillance while as 22,90,097 persons have completed their surveillance period, the bulletin informed.
