Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir reported 342 fresh cases of COVID-19 and five fatalities on Saturday, taking the union territory’s cumulative infection tally to 3,14,316 and the death toll to 4,296.
Out of the fresh cases, 235 were from Kashmir Valley and 107 were from Jammu division, officials said.
They said Srinagar district recorded the highest number of 84 new cases of the infection, followed Pulwama with 29.
Of the five deaths, four were reported from Jammu division and one from Kashmir Valley, officials said.
They said there were 29 confirmed cases of mucormycosis (black fungus) in the union territory at present.
Moreover, 864 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and have been discharged from various hospitals during past 24 hours, including 489 from Kashmir and 375 from Jammu division, they said.
They also informed that so far 81.36 percent of population above the age of 45 years has been vaccinated across the Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the daily media bulletin on novel Coronavirus (Covid-19), out of 3,14,316 positive cases recorded cumulatively thus far, currently there are 5,630 are active positive cases across J&K, while as 3,04,390 persons have recovered and 4,296 have died – 2,200 in Kashmir and 2,096 in Jammu division.
The bulletin further said that out of 97,74,384 test results available, 94,60,068 samples have tested negative till 26th June, 2021.
Till date 23,83,500 persons have been enlisted for observation which included 20,766 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by the government, 5,630 in isolation and 2,08,758 in home surveillance while as 21,44,050 persons have completed their surveillance period, the bulletin informed.
India records 48,698 COVID-19 cases, 1,183 deaths in a day
New Delhi: A single-day rise of 48,698 COVID-19 infections took India’s case tally to 3,01,83,143 while the weekly positivity rate declined to 2.97 percent, according to Union Health Ministry data on Saturday.
The death toll climbed to 3,94,493 with 1,183 more people succumbing to the viral disease in a day.
The number of active cases has further declined to 5,95,565 and now accounts for 1.97 percent of the total infections, the data updated at 8 am showed.
Recoveries outnumbered daily new cases of COVID-19 for the 44th consecutive day with the number of people who have recuperated from the disease surging to 2,91,93,085. The case fatality rate stood at 1.31 percent.
While the national COVID-19 recovery rate has improved to 96.72 percent, the weekly case positivity rate has come down to 2.97 percent.
According to the Health Ministry data, the daily positivity rate was recorded at 2.79 percent. It has been less than 5 percent for 19 consecutive days.
India administered 61.19 lakh vaccine doses in a day taking the cumulative number of jabs given so far under the nationwide inoculation drive to 31.50 crore, according to immunisation data published at 7 am.
Also, 17,35,781 tests were conducted on Friday for the detection of COVID-19, taking the total number of tests conducted so far in the country to 39,95,68,448.
India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 07 last year, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 05 and 50 lakh on September 16. It went past 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20 and surpassed the one-crore mark on December 19.
The country crossed the grim milestone of two crore total COVID-19 cases on May 04 this year and three crore on June 23.
The total 3,94,493 deaths reported so far in the country include 1,20,370 in Maharashtra, 34,539 in Karnataka, 32,051 in Tamil Nadu, 24,952 in Delhi, 22,381 in Uttar Pradesh, 17,551 in West Bengal, 15,956 in Punjab, and 13,423 in Chhattisgarh.
The Health Ministry has stressed that more than 70 percent of the deaths reported so far have occurred due to comorbidities.
“Our figures are being reconciled with the Indian Council of Medical Research,” the ministry said on its website, adding that state-wise distribution of figures is subject to further verification and reconciliation.
