Samoon reviews working of skill dev institutions

Srinagar: Principal Secretary Skill Development Department (SDD), Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon, today reviewed working of all the skill imparting institutions here.

The meeting was attended by Director SDD, Secretary Technical Board, Joint Directors, Principals of Polytechnic colleges and Superintendents of ITIs.

Out-station officers participated in the meeting through video conferencing.

At the outset of the meeting the Principal Secretary took stock of all the works of infrastructure building being carried out by different executing agencies. He asked the officers to closely monitor the progress of all the projects and ensure their timely completion. He enjoined upon them to dedicate these projects to public as infrastructure availability is linked to academic commencement.

Dr Samoon urged upon them to aspire for making this infrastructure correlate to their performance in terms of success stories and relevant skills imparted by them. He asked them to have inter-institutional coordination so that augmentation of both infrastructure and manpower is accomplished.

Dr Samoon asked the heads of these institutions to look for avenues locally where students could be exposed to industrial environment for certain period of time so that they get acclimatized with the actual field work and requirements for the job.

The Principal Secretary directed these heads to have survey of their areas and look for the necessary skills the local industrial units are in need of. He asked them to rope in big business houses so that the skilled manpower they are in need of could be provided from these institutions. He exhorted upon them to provide training to the students that is relevant and sufficient for seeking jobs in the market.

Dr Samoon also instructed the officers to invite professionals to demonstrate their skills in the institutions so that the students imbibe the real temperament for carrying out the job they are being trained for. He advised them to make it their mission to help every student enrolled in these institutions to secure a job at the end of their training. He asked them to make it regular feature to organise job fairs and talent hunt events.

Later while reviewing other administrative matters the Principal Secretary directed the officers to reply satisfactorily all the audit queries still pending. He asked them to take help of the professionals for doing the same.

The heads of institutions also projected their requirements during the meeting. They were assured that government is keen to offer support to each of these skill imparting institutions so that they are turned into institutions par excellence for generating technocrats, engineers and master workmen.
