Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Saturday expressed concern over the failure of the incumbent administration in ensuring the availability of basic civic facilities and minimal public services to people in Srinagar areas saying the crumbling infrastructure, faltering utility supplies and deteriorating basic human development indicators have become the norm of the day.

Governance and development has taken a back seat, the situation in Amira Kadal is no different, said Party’s Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani while addressing the party’s functionaries of Amira Kadal constituency here at party headquarters Nawa e Subha, Srinagar.

The meeting saw participation of the party’s youth, women’s wing, parent body and minority cell functionaries. Among others who spoke on the occasion included the party’s provincial wing provincial president Er. Sabiya Qadri, minority wing organizer JS Azad, and block president Amira Kadal Rafiq Ellahi.

Addressing the functionaries, Nasir said that the constituency has received step-motherly treatment since 2015 and the projects which were initiated by the NC-led government during its stint in power, have also been put into cold storage. “With the onset of summers it was expected that the administration would undertake massive restoration works in the constituency but as of now, nothing substantial has happened. The main arterials, roads, lane and bilanes continue are in ruins, a few minutes of downpour converts the roads into cesspools and slush. The situation is grave in the low-lying areas,” he said.

On the occasion, Nasir impressed upon the functionaries to ensure that the membership drive reaches to Mohalla, Halqa level.

He said that the people of the constituency have been impacted by the ravaging Covid-19 innumerably and the laidback attitude of the incumbent administration in mitigating their woes has further pushed them to the wall.

While expressing concern over the plight of youth suffering on account of joblessness and closure of spaces for the pursuance of vocations, Nasir said the government has turned a volte-face towards the issues concerning the youth of J&K. Far from providing jobs to youth of J&K the government has perversely been showing the door to scores of employed youth working in various departments. “So far the government has only been serving catch-words and false promises to youth, nothing substantial is being done to revive tourism, manufacturing, handicrafts and small and medium, scale businesses,” he said.
