Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Saturday  took strong exception to the calling of DDC meeting of Budgam by the concerned CEO, saying the measure has forsaken all democratic norms and procedures established by law.

In a joint statement Party’s eight DDC members and one JKPM member have called into question the measure of convening a meeting of DDC members of Budgam by ADC/CEO District Development Council Budgam on the insistence of Nazir Ahmed Khan. “How can the so-called DDC chairman ask the concerned CEO to convene a meeting of DDC members in the first place? It is a known fact that the so-called DDC member is awaiting validation of his election to the post of DDC chairman. On that account the concerned CEO should have refrained from the illegitimate and undemocratic act. Notwithstanding the sub judice nature of the DDC elections, the concerned CEO went ahead and convened a meeting at 12pm the next day.”

“The meeting was eventually held and saw the participation of only five DDC members that included the so-called DDC chairman as well; while the nine DDC members didn’t show up.  The so-called DDC Chairman continued with the meeting despite the absence of the required quorum which requires nine members to be present in the meeting. The concerned CEO acted mute to the brazen violation of rules and allowed the so-called DDC chairman to proceed with the meeting ditching all legal and democratic norms,” the joint statement reads.

The party DDC members said that the very absence of the quorum is the telling indictment of the lack of faith of the majority of DDC members in the so-called DDC chairman Nazir Khan, who they maintained should resign immediately on moral and legal grounds.

Impressing upon the election commission and government to initiate an inquiry into the matter, the party’s DDC members said, “The required validation of the DDC elections is still impending in the court of law. How can the concerned CEO entertain the advice of the so-called DDC Chairman in the first place? How can he allow the meeting to continue in the nonattendance of the mandatory quorum? All this needs to be inquired thoroughly,” the members said.
