Navin inaugurates celebration of paddy transplanting day at Anantnag

ANANTNAG: Principal Secretary, Agriculture Production and Farmers Welfare Department, Navin Kumar Choudary, today visited various paddy cultivated lands of Anantnag district as part of celebration of paddy transplanting day.

While interacting with the farmers, Choudary said that the prime motive behind celebration of this day is to raise awareness among the farmers regarding use of new scientific technologies in farming to increase the income and production of their agricultural produce. He termed farmers as the backbone of our economy saying that the government is committed to boosting agriculture activities through different schemes which are in vogue for uplift of this sector.

It is pertinent to mention here that the paddy transplanting day was celebrated at zone Mattan, Aishmuqam, Achabal which was appreciated by the local farmers as a morale booster for the fraternity.

Navin asked the concerned officers to take up some concrete steps towards expanding the agricultural land and motivate the farmers for adopting progressive scientific farming techniques and cash crop cultivation to ensure food security for the posterity.

Talking about the loss of agricultural produce due to natural calamities like hailstorm, cloud burst, Navin said that every possible help will be provided as per the provisions of Disaster Management Act.

After inaugurating a sale outlet for migrant colony at Vesu Qazigund area of the district, he emphasized the officers to encourage and promote organic farming across the Valley.

Director Agriculture, Kashmir, Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal; Joint Director Agriculture Inputs, Farooq Ahmad Shah; Deputy Director, Law Enforcement, Mohammad Younis Chowdhary; Chief Agriculture Officer Anantnag, Farooq Ahmad Dandroo and other field functionaries of the department were present on the occasion.
