Srinagar: Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Assad Thursday stressed on mass vaccination in the city to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 second wave saying challenges have increased to enter into ‘Green from Orange zone’.

DC Srinagar asked people to adhere to the COVID-appropriate behavior by wearing masks, maintaining physical distancing and frequent hand hygiene to break the chain of infections.

Talking to reporters at his office, Assad also claimed that around 2,60,000 vaccines have been administered in Srinagar so far while priority groups would be covered under special category.

He said the priority group comprising shopkeepers, vendors, tourism workers, transporters and those from special category like government employees and employees discharging COVID-19 duties would be brought under special coverage.

He also said the administration has taken several measures after announcing partial relaxation in Srinagar while emphasis is laid on COVID-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

“After decline in number of positive cases, government lays emphasis on COVID-19 SOPs as we have to move from Orange to Green zone. I request everyone to get vaccinated to save themselves, their families, neighbors and relatives from the deadly disease,” he added.

He also advised people to adopt the same strategy they adopted during 1st wave so that the 2nd wave is defeated successfully.

“The only way to enter Green from Orange zone is to follow SOPs in letter and spirit and adopt the same strategy we adopted during 1st wave. This way we can only defeat the 2nd wave successfully,” DC Srinagar said.
