As per police records, the killed militant was active since March 26, 2021 and was involved in several militancy cases, spokesman said.

Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition have also been recovered from his possession. In this regard, a case has been registered and further investigation is in progress,” the statement said.

An official said that the exact number of hiding militants is not known while the exchange of fire from either side is going on while security forces have rushed in reinforcements to the area.

Kashmir zone police in a tweet also said that encounter has started at Warpora area of Sopore. “Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow,” it said.
