Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday recorded 3,037 fresh Covid cases, taking the infection count to 2,78,859, while 40 more deaths in the past 24 hours pushed the toll 3,702 in the Union Territory, officials said.

Out of the fresh cases, 1,948 were reported from the Kashmir Valley and 1,089 were from the Jammu division, they said

Srinagar district recorded the highest of 493 cases, followed by 445 in Jammu district and 260 in Baramulla district.

The death toll due to the disease rose to 3,702 as 40 more patients – 21 in Kashmir Valley, and 19 in Jammu division — died in the past 24 hours.

The officials said 4023 COVID-19 patients have recovered and have been discharged from various hospitals in the past 24 hours. These include 2253 persons from Kashmir Valley and 1770 from Jammu division.

According to the daily media bulletin on novel coronavirus (Covid-19), out of 2,78,859 positive cases cumulatively recorded thus far across the UT, currently there are 43,892 active cases in J&K, while 2,31,265 have recovered and 3702 have died —  1918 in Kashmir Valley and 1784 in Jammu division.

The bulletin further said that out of 83,59,251 test results available, 80,80,392 samples have tested negative till May 26, 2021.

Till date 20,50,607 persons have been enlisted for observation which included 75,604 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by the government, 43,892 in isolation and 1,42,448 in home surveillance. Besides 1,78,49,641 persons have completed their surveillance period, the bulletin informed.
