Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday reported 59 COVID-19 deaths and 4,141 new cases.

As per the government data, 2,451 of the fresh cases were reported from Kashmir division and 1,690 in Jammu in the last 24 hours.

The officials said Srinagar district recorded the highest of 831 cases, followed by 625 in Jammu district and 320 in Budgam district.

Of the 59 fresh fatalities, 31 of them have been reported in Jammu while 28 were reported in Kashmir taking the overall tally in J&K to 3,149 – of them 1,710 in Kashmir and 1,439 in Jammu.

There are currently a total of 51,623 active cases in J&K — 31,189 in Kashmir and 20,434 in Jammu.

A total of 3,934 COVID-19 patients — 2749 from Kashmir and 1185 from Jammu division — have recovered from the deadly disease and discharged from the hospitals during past 24e hours, taking the total recoveries to 1,89,836, the officials said.

According to the daily media bulletin on novel Corona virus (Covid-19), out of 2,44,608 positive cases detected thus far, 51,623 are active positive currently, 1,89,836 have recovered and 3,149 have died across the UT so far.

The bulletin further said that out of 79,21,228 test results available, 79,21,228 samples have been tested as negative till May 16, 2021.

Till date 19,65,811 persons have been enlisted for observation which included 74,816 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 51,623 in isolation and 1,19,230 in home surveillance. Besides, 17,16,993 persons have completed their surveillance period, the bulletin informed.

Meanwhile, amid reports of shortage of vaccines in Kashmir, no jab was administered across the 10 districts in the Valley on Sunday, the officials said.

In the meantime, 11,060 positive cases were reported in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, Friday and Saturday besides 178 infection related deaths.

On Thursday, May 13, J&K reported 4356 positive cases – 2585 from Kashmir and 1771 from Jammu division besides 55 infection related deaths; on Friday, May 14, total positive cases reported from J&K were 3027 – 1516 from Kashmir and 1511 from Jammu division besides 60 deaths and; On Saturday, May 15, 3677 positive cases – 1949 from Kashmir and 1728 from Jammu division and 63 deaths were reported from the UT.
