Record 65 die of COVID-19 in J&K; 4,352 fresh cases detected

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir recorded 4,352 fresh coronavirus cases on Tuesday, taking the total number of infections to 2,24,898, while record 65 fatalities in the past 24 hours pushed the death toll to 2,847, officials said.

Out of the fresh cases, 2,644 were from the Kashmir Valley and 1,708 were from the Jammu division, they said.

The officials said Srinagar district recorded the highest of 846 cases, followed by 602 in Jammu district and 361 in Baramulla district.

The number of active cases has breached 50,000-mark and reached 50,701 in the Union Territory — 32,660 in Kashmir and 18,041 in Jammu — while 1,71,350 patients have recovered so far, the officials said.

The death toll due to the disease rose to 2,847 as 65 fresh deaths — 41 in the Jammu region and 24 in the Kashmir Valley — were reported in the past 24 hours.

Officials also said that during past 24 hours, 3537 COVID-19 patients have recovered and have been discharged from various hospitals. These include 1275 from Jammu division and 2262 from Kashmir Valley.

According to the daily media bulletin on Covid-19, out of 2,24,898 positive cases detected thus far, 50,701 are currently active positive, 1,71,350 have recovered and 2,847 have died – 1251 in Jammu division and 1596 in Kashmir Valley.

The bulletin further said that out of 77,31,176 test results available, 75,06,278 samples have been tested as negative till May 11, 2021.

Till date 19,26,488 persons have been enlisted for observation which included 86,264 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 50,701 in isolation and 1,31,873 in home surveillance. Besides, 16,54,803 persons have completed their surveillance period.
