Police arrests 4 drug peddlers in Bandipora, Kulgam, Budgam

Srinagar: Continuing its efforts to eradicate drug menace from the society, Police have arrested four drug peddlers in Bandipora, Kulgam & Budgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession, said a police spokesperson

“Acting on specific information, a police party led by In-charge Police Post Aloosa established a checkpoint at Malangam Bandipora. During checking, the police party intercepted one person and recovered 160 grams of charas from his possession. He has identified as Samir Ahmad Sheikh son of Mohammad Shaban Sheikh resident of Malangam Bandipora. He has been arrested and shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody,” the spokesperson said.

“A case FIR number 47/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Bandipora and investigation was taken up. During the course of investigation, it was learnt that the accused drug peddler was supplying these drugs to youth of the area, especially in and around Aloosa-Malangam belt,” he said.

The spokesperson further said: “Meanwhile, in Kulgam, acting on specific information, officers at a checkpoint established at Levdora Qazigund intercepted a suspicious vehicle bearing registration number JK03B-8948 with one person on board. He has been identified as Javeed Ahmad Bhat son of Mohd Jamal Bhat resident of Kuchpora Qazigund. During search officers were able to recover 12kgs of Poppy Straw from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody. Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.”

“Accordingly, a  case vide FIR No. 72/2021 under relevant sections of  law has been registered in Police Station Qazigund and further investigation into the matter has been initiated,” the spokesperson said.

“Similarly, in Budgam, officers at a checkpoint established at Gudsatoo Budgam and intercepted two suspicious persons identified as Waris Mohidin Sofi resident of Panzan Chadoora and Owais Muzzafar Dar resident of Ompora Budgam. During checking, officers were able to recover 3.2kgs of Poppy Straw, 100grams Charas, 03 Bottles of Codeine Phosphate, 105 tablets and 33 capsules of banned drugs concealed in a polyethylene bags from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody. Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 87/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Budgam and further investigation into the matter has been initiated,” the spokesperson added.
