JKPI introduces “Expert Talk Series” for holding deliberation cum dialogue on “SDG 5: Gender Equality”

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Policy Institute (JKPI), a Srinagar-based independent youth-driven think-tank, has introduced a special initiative “Expert Talk Series” for holding deliberation cum dialogue on Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) -5: Gender equality.
SDG -5 concerns gender equality and is fifth of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals established by the United Nations in 2015. The official wording of SDG -5 is “Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls”.
According to the Media & PR Coordinator JKPI, Burhan Mehraj, the Expert Talk Series is an initiative wherein we seek to source inputs and recommendations from experts in various fields pertaining to different sustainable development goals through one-on-one dialogues.
“Every week in the month of April, we seek to host experts who would share with us the different dimensions of the challenges and possibilities while drawing from their own rich repertoire of experiences in the field,” Mehraj said.
“As an organization, JKPI believes in multi-stakeholder dialogues as one of the most important components in building a shared vision for development in Jammu and Kashmir and true to our faith in the same, we have initiated this series to engage experts, change-makers, pioneers from various walks of life to understand the dynamic context of implementing the sustainable development goals on our agenda,” he said.
Mehraj further said: “We believe that personal stories of passionate pursuit of goals, research on addressed gaps and efforts to be a part of the change is a very big aspect of development in action at an individual level. We are hopeful that these stories would inspire many people over the following weeks.”
“In the last week of April on 9th and 10th, we had invited Miss Ruha Shadab and Miss Bhavna Misri Bhavna who talked about Gender Equality in Entrepreneurship and Business,” said Mehraj.
“Miss Ruha Shadab is a doctor turned public health professional turned social entrepreneur. Miss Bhavna Misri is a veteran in the real estate consulting fraternity and has worked in leadership roles with many organizations,” he said.
JKPI— a novel initiative— provides policy inputs and recommendations on sustainable development agenda, good governance, stability and security with a focus on education and gender-inclusive approaches for the path ahead in Jammu and Kashmir.
